The Book of Jubilees retells the narrative of the book of Genesis and the early chapters of the book of Exodus, following the structure and wording of the biblical source very closely. It was composed in the middle of the second century BCE, somewhere between 160 and 130 BCE. This was a period of considerable political and religious turbulence in Palestine, when the Maccabees led a Jewish rebellion against the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes. One
